Opening Day at Northside Downs on May 9th proved that harness racing is alive and well on Cape Breton Island, as fans, horse people, and supporters packed the small Maritime oval for an exciting afternoon of racing and community spirit.

Still a small amount of horses for our 2nd qualifier.....however we are not put off.  Races will start May 9th with a short card and some small fields.  You have to start somewhere.

Numbers are a little light for our first day of qualifiers, bit still a good turn out.  Talk around to barns is that there will be more next week (May 2nd 2026)
